Connecting to a Windows VDS with Remote Desktop (RDP)

Virtual Servers (VDS) 9 August 2026 Updated: 30 September 2026 2 min read Light Hosting Technical Team

A Windows VDS connection requires the server IP address, an authorized account and RDP access. These steps cover the Windows client; use a compatible remote desktop client on other devices.

1. Prepare the connection

Confirm in your customer panel that the server is running. Check its IP address and assigned username; keep your password private.

2. Open the RDP client

Search Windows for mstsc. Enter the IP address in the Computer field, or IP:PORT if a custom port is configured. Sign in with your authorized account.

3. Verify the connection

Verify the server identity before accepting a certificate warning. If connection fails, use the panel console to check the RDP service, account permissions and firewall rule for the configured port.
